Shoe Love: Melissa Flip Wedge

It's been raining like crazy here in the city. I swear our weather nowadays is so unpredictable! One minute it's sunny, the next thing you know it's raining hard again! I find it such a challenge to dress up for this weather especially when it comes down to deciding the shoes I'll be wearing!

I'm so not a fan of the rainy season even though I was born on a month where typhoons come in the country one after the next with just days between them. Rainy season is so bleak, wet and cold! But there's nothing like a cute pair of shoes that can withstand this crazy wet weather we're having to brighten up one's day!

Well, I recently visited the Geleia store in Glorietta with a friend because I really like Melissa shoes! And I saw that they have a new pair of shoes added in their gorgeous collection.

Meet the Melissa Flip Wedge!

Cute noh? It comes in different colors too. I particularly love the maroon red and the nude colored wedge.

A pair cost Php4,995. They're durable and comfy to wear so at that price, it's definitely not bad! I know I'm getting myself one or two! (",)

Kapeng Barako Club: Samahan Ng Mga Bitter

Here's an interesting show I'm looking forward to watching - it's the Palanca award-winning play called Kapeng Barako Club (KBC): Samahan ng mga Bitter.

The show is written and directed by Juan Ekis, previously known for his other Palanca winning play "Twenty Questions" which became viral in the Internet. Kapeng Barako Club tells the story of a group of coffee-loving friends who don't believe in love but in reality, each one is dying to experience being loved. According to the playwright, he just wanted to stage a play with the title Kapeng Barako Club: Samahan ng mga Bitter but he didn't know what it was going to be about just yet. He just knew he wanted to write about types of people and the types of coffee they love and how their personalities are reflected in their drinks.

KBC is the longest-running show presented by Arts and Culture Asia (ACASIA), a non-profit organization aimed at cultivating the crafts of thespians and showcasing their talents across different venues.

Meet the characters:

Joel, a freelance artist and struggles to confess his love to Anna

Anna, an accounts executive and best friend of Joel

Masi, a vocalist for a band and engaged to Ed (ex love interest of Anna).

Eric, a consulting firm manager who finds it hard to express his true feelings for Masi. Interestingly, Masi has feelings for Eric too.

Stef, a commercial model and just
came back from her studies in Russia

Marlowe, coffee shop owner

Sunshine,  the  cheerful  barista  at
Marlowe’s cafe.

Staged in cafes, KBC is set to please kape lovers once more starting this September 6, 2014. The first show will happen at Third Cup Cafe, one of the premier, go-to coffee shops in Rosa Alvero Street, Katipunan Avenue, Quezon City. Tickets are at Php500 each with 1 free drink. Say Yes to Natural Beauty

Ever since I discovered the wonders make up can do, I've loved wearing it. I hardly go out of the house without makeup nowadays. It's nice to wear makeup. Now my Dad had always told me I don't need makeup just to feel beautiful. "Mas maganda parin ang natural beauty anak," he always said.

Well, while I have embraced and will continue to embrace the kikay side of me, I still believe what he said about loving one's natural beauty. I firmly believe that we women should use makeup to enhance their already naturally beautiful faces and not hide it. And I specially believe that we shouldn't feel the need to photoshop our flaws away or filter it for that matter! That's why I just love the new campaign of The Body Shop, The No Retouch Movement for their All-in-One Instablur.

The Body Shop's All-in-One Instablur 5-action perfector will give you flawless, photo-perfect looking skin in an instant. It comes only in one universal shade so whatever skin tone you have, you can blur your skin imperfections in an instant without having the need to filter your photo - especially perfect for those who love taking selfies!

Insta-Blur has a unique formula made of mattifying spherical powders with smart-filling properties and moisturizing Vitamin E.

Instablur kinda looks like paste.

The Body Shop invited me to try it on for myself along with some other bloggers one Saturday. Perfect timing because I had another event to attend to after that!

My selfie after The Body Shop's makeup artist worked her magic on me with the Instablur. Look at that! My pores were minimized and my dark under eye circles barely noticeable. I also like the fact that it felt smooth on my face. A plus is that even after a few hours of wearing this, my face wasn't oily which is usually the case even with mattifying foundation on.

And after getting a makeover, we also had a photoshoot!

This is me with The Body Shop ladies, Anne and Danica

And this is me along with the other ladies who also said Yes to Natural Beauty

The Body Shop also has an advocacy partnership with the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA). YWCA is a global network of women in 125 countries worldwide that are advocating for peace, justice, human rights, environment, and the status of women. You can write an uplifting note to inspire the women in this organization whenever they are feeling a little low and dropping it on one of their inspirational boxes or by posting your note on The Body Shop's community wall.

You too can join the No Retouch Movement. Be an advocate of natural beauty. Support The Body Shop's No Retouch Campaign!

What made my Friday morning...

...it's the official movie trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey, finally released!

If you've been an avid reader of this blog, then you know that I am one of the many ladies that's excited about this movie release! I just adore Christian Grey!

Jamie is seriously looking hot in this movie! And personally I think Dakota is doing a good job being Anastasia Steele. Granted I had Alexei Bledel in mind for the role but now I think I can safely say I will like Dakota as Anastasia.

How about those steamy sex scenes huh? (",)  Can't wait for the movie this February 2015!

Oh that elevator kiss scene! Love it!!!

A Visit to the Swiss Inspired Crosswinds Resort Suites

I've read about Crosswinds, this Swiss inspired place in Tagaytay early last year from Deal Grocer and have wanted to visit since then. So when Jordan told me he wanted a weekend getaway, I enticed him to go to Crosswinds Resort Suites with me!

The weather was pretty gloomy. No surprise since it's the month of July, it's officially the rainy season! Luckily, it wasn't raining just yet when we got there so we were able to explore the place.

See that road? Jordan wanted to walk down that road to get to our accommodations. The guard who initially greeted us when we got there thought that was amusing. He told us to wait for a shuttle service to pick us up. Later on, we'd find out why we couldn't just go by foot.

But while we waited, we explored the nearby area...

Check it out! There's a windmill in Crosswinds! That definitely adds to the Swiss-inspired charm of Crosswinds.

A selfie was in order to document our first ever staycation and overnight out of town trip together.

Here's the shuttle service of Crosswinds to take us inside. While on the road, keep your windows open and inhale in the cool and fresh air around you.

And here we are! Finally at Grand Quartier 2, where we are supposed to check in at 2PM.

This is the front desk. Nothing elegant about it. Crosswinds' Grand Quartier 2 is more like a condotel. Be prepared to present your credit card or have an extra PHP1,000 cash on you for security deposit.

Anyway since we got there 30 minutes early and since our room wasn't ready yet, we left our stuff at the front desk and walked around the nearby vicinity for awhile.

The Yule Shop. This store is filled with a lot of Christmas decors! Couldn't go in though because it was close during our visit. But I took a couple of shots around.

Oh look! It's Santa's sleigh! We took turns climbing up this sleigh to get our picture taken of us in it.

So here's me in the sled, with a dainty pose as always...

And here's Jordan with a stiff neck. LOL! I'm kidding. He's doing one of his fashion blogger inspired poses. Have I ever told you guys he's a big fan of David Guison?

Okay now let me show you our room for the night. We stayed at a studio room by the way. We only had to pay Php3,750 for an overnight stay thanks to Deal Grocer.

Kitchen area where you can cook or heat up your dishes in. There's a fridge where you can stock your food in if you brought anything that needs to be chilled and of course a sink to wash your dishes. Initially Jordan wanted to bring hotdogs to fry but we ended up getting food delivered instead.

A table for two where you can eat right across the kitchen.

Jordan and I shared this queen size bed.

There's a small Samsung LCD TV for those who want to just stay in bed and veg out in front of the TV and a comfy couch perfect for reading books.

Bathroom area:

After dropping off our stuff in the room, we went around to explore the place some more. It's really big - about 100 hectares. So to get around the place, ride the shuttle service that they provide. It's free anyhow. Or if you brought a car, use that. Don't try to explore by foot. Unless you want to hike that is. Nothing wrong with that. It's just that the place is huge and the roads are going uphill so it can be pretty tiring to go exploring by foot.

Jordan and I tried walking around without the shuttle. So that's how I know what a challenge it can be to walk around the place without a vehicle.

These are photos from the Santa's House in Crosswinds. The place also has the Christmas-y feel. Cute noh?

This is the view from our balcony by the way. Crosswinds Resort Suites is surrounded by the crisp scent of 20,000 pine trees. Actually even our room smelled of pine when we first entered.

Crosswinds currently doesn't have any restaurants in it. Just this convenience store that sells coffee, cakes, pastries and sandwiches. You'll have to travel all the way near the entrance though to find this.

The pool and playground area:

Crosswinds has an outdoor pool for adults and kids. Both are circular in shape. The adult pool is just about 5 ft. deep. Lucky me!

Here's an underwater shot of me. Jordan used his GoPro camera for this. I thought it was a pretty cool shot! Though I probably wouldn't receive praises from America's Next Top Model judges for this shot. Not very top fashion model underwater shot! Haha!

Took a photo at the Crosswinds sign on the hills ala Hollywood signage! Quite tricky to get down to this spot.

Crosswinds is such a beautiful place. It's great for picture taking. My friend, the aspiring fashion blogger, Jordan was definitely delighted by this fact. For instance, these walls make for a pretty background.

So does this tall rectangular bush... This was Jordan's favorite photo spot actually.

You can actually live in Crosswinds Resort Suites. See those houses? Those are residential places. So if you can afford it, you can buy a place here. I personally like the design.

This house is my favorite out of them all. It kind of stands out doesn't it?

Well, I had a nice overnight stay at Crosswinds. The place is beautiful. I did feel like I was transported to a different place. And the staff were accommodating. If you're looking for a nearby getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city life, Crosswinds is a good place to consider. It is as Deal Grocer's write up said, a refreshing Alpine escape.

I only wish there was a restaurant in the area and a spa! I think those two would be great additions to the place. But maybe in the near future. Construction is still ongoing anyhow.

If you want to check out Crosswinds Resort Suites, there are ongoing deals at Deal Grocer.
