My first book for 2010 and My New Gadget

I had a pretty good weekend. I finally have a new cellphone and I just finished reading my first book for 2010.

Everyone Worth Knowing

I confessed before that I haven't been able to do much reading because I've gotten so busy so this year, I resolve to read again. I started off with a must-read books list which I update every time I pass by a bookstore. Everyone Worth Knowing by Lauren Weisberg is part of my list and thankfully, I have a boss who likes to read a lot! She lent me her copy and I've been reading it almost every night before bedtime. It took awhile for me to finish, one chapter or two at a time but thankfully, I was able to make myself sit in one corner last Sunday to finish the book. I read it while I waited every time for the washing machine to stop spinning.

It's a good book, that much I can say. The basic story is that Bette Robinson, the heroine of the book, suddenly ups and quits her banking job and lands a job at an events PR company where she gets involve in a gossip column. What I like about it is how it gives the reader an inside look on a whole new job industry where your job is to party. It could be like an escape from one's boring 8-5 job.

A New Gadget

And after quite some time of getting used to owning a low tech mobile phone after so carelessly losing my N90 early last year, I finally have a new fantabulous (fantastic + fabulous) phone! I've lusted for so many months over the LG GD900 Crystal phone and now I have it! My parents allowed me to charge it to their credit card, that's the only reason I have this now. I'm gonna pay them for it. It's not given to me for free, but oh well! I'm very happy about it.

Actually, my first love was Samsung's Ultra Touch phone but when I saw LG's crystal phone, I just knew it was the one! It's stylish, it's got an 8 mega pixel camera and it's dual use (touchscreen and keypad) - top three things I've been looking for in my new phone. This time I promise myself that I will take really good care of it.

When the Going Gets Tough...

To borrow from another popular band in the 90s, "When the going gets tough, the tough gets going" and that is exactly what I'm doing - money wise that is.

I have a full time job that pays just fine but lately I've found that the income I get from it is no longer enough to sustain the kind of lifestyle I have now. I have become "magastos". And don't think I haven't tried to live the frugal life because I have! Over the past year, my friends and I have been skipping the malls and have resorted to hanging out at a friend's house, I rarely watch a movie in theaters now as well and I've even cut down on treating my friends who are currently unemployed whenever we want to have her company. I guess everyone's feeling the economic crunch.

Being broke is a depressing feeling and I am not having it anymore! That's why I'm so glad to have found an extra source of income. I've become a freelance blogger! Since last February, I've been writing for certain blogs and the pay is not so bad. Not bad at all! I recently just got paid via Paypal. I gotta tell you, when I saw the message with the subject title "You've got money!" it just made my day. I'm happy that I got to put my writing skills to work. In fact, when my full time job and graduate school starts slowing down again, I'm going to find more extra source of income. And in case you're wondering how I landed that freelance gig, you should check out Craiglist Manila. It's a gold mine!

I was also inspired by reading Frances blog. She sure earns a nice amount of money from doing what she likes to do: write!

7 Things

Look at that! My first blogger award, thanks Joei for this wonderful award. So, according to the instructions, I'm supposed to share 7 things about me now. So here goes...

1. I cannot live without lotion. Some people are text addicts, TV addicts, net addicts and what have you... Me? I'm a lotion addict. I have the large lotions at home and I have a small, handy one that I bring with me everywhere.

2. I love love loooovvveeee cute guys! You could probably tell through some of my blog posts.

3. Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys was my first ever major foreign crush. Like I said on my previous post,   I wanted to marry the guy!

4. I see myself in Carrie of Sex and the City a lot! Like her, I'm really into shoes. And I have a tendency to be fixated on things and erm... guys.

5.  I cannot write poems and I cannot dance!

6. I love Archie comics! I think Archie and the gang are really funny. And if Archie is gonna end up with anybody, I want it to be Betty!

7. Lastly, I enjoy walking. Yes, I do. I always walk from my office to the jeep station (which for a lot of peeps seem like a long walk but me? I don't mind), I also walk to and from RCBC plaza every Friday when I have a class there. Walking is the only form of exercise I can easily do.

Now, to pass it to my blogger friends: Russ of Because I Said So, Vea of A Real Messy Beautiful Twisted Sunshine and S & NJ of Peppermint Kiss.
