Pamper Me Monday: Sci-Fi Cafe

I love my work. I do. I believe I'm one of those twenty-something peeps that got lucky finding the kind of career he/she wants to pursue. But sometimes, when it becomes crazy busy, it can get very stressful and it can take a toll on you physically, mentally and even emotionally. My friend from work, Maila and I can attest to that!

One work day over lunch, Maila came up with this idea of having something wonderful to look forward to on a Monday. It will be a mini-celebration of sort, a treat for us hardworking ladies after work and it could be a whatever - movie, a new resto perhaps, maybe shopping! - whatever it is, it has to be something fun that we would both enjoy doing. We're calling this Pamper-Me-Monday.

Tonight was the start of our many more Pamper-Me-Mondays (I hope! I hope!) and for our first ever Monday bonding activity, we went to Sci-Fi Cafe at Robinson's Galleria. For the ultimate sci-fi geek, this is definitely one hella cool place.

Check out their creatively named menu:

Maila and I ordered the Supreme Man pizza with Milk Chocolate shake and Strawberry Iced Tea. The pizza was delicious but it's nothing special.

We definitely enjoyed our first Pamper-Me-Monday and I am definitely looking forward to more of these. What do you guys do to unwind after a long day at work? Maybe you can suggest some things for us to do for our future Pamper-Me-Mondays.

And if you guys want to know more about Sci-Fi cafe, you can read the write up on Click the City.

A Heartbroken Gleek

I am a heartbroken Gleek after finding out the shocking and truly sad news just this weekend that my favorite Gleek guy Finn Hudson aka Cory Monteith in real life had died. He was just 31 years old. I absolutely loved him as the tall, awkward high school quarterback turned Glee club member in the hit TV musical/comedy show Glee. I loved his tandem there with real life girlfriend, Lea Michelle aka Rachel Berry. They had such cute chemistry on and off cam.

I followed Glee not just for the music but also because I got hooked on the Rachel-Finn love story from season 1! Plus I loved Finn's singing voice. I've even blogged about a couple of his Glee performances before: Jessie's Girl and It's My Life/Confessions Part 2. Cause of death is unknown yet but some suspect he might have died from drug overdose. Poor Cory. He just checked in to rehab too just a few months ago because he wanted to recover from his drug addiction which he'd struggled with from an early age of 13.

It's always sad to hear of young, talented and absolutely good looking celebrities passing away so suddenly. My heart goes out to Lea Michelle and Cory's family and friends. It's heartbreaking to know that I will never again see or hear Cory singing on Glee.

So as a Gleek, I'm going to honor Cory by sharing a couple more of my favorite Finn performances.

Losing my Religion

The Scientist

Bye Bye Bye/I Want it That Way (Cory looks super cute in this vid)

Don't Stop Believing (Of course)

Lea Michele said in her January 2013 Marie Claire cover girl interview that she can't even remember a time when Cory wasn't her boyfriend. He makes her feel like she can do anything. Awww...

Farewell Cory. You will be missed.

Rock of Ages

The first time I heard of Rock Ages was when I watched the movie last year. The movie got bad reviews  from the critics but I thought it was good. Tom Cruise was a rock god in the movie. Julianne Hough and Diego Boneta as Drew and Sherrie made a wonderful pair. But most of all, I really loved the soundtrack. I'm more of a pop music lover but I truly enjoyed the rock songs featured on Rock of Ages.

I didn't know it was originally a Broadway musical until I heard about the one by Atlantis Productions where Mig Ayesa plays the role of Stacee Jaxx. While I didn't get to catch the first run of Rock of Ages here in Manila, I finally got to see its repeat run and it's all thanks to Velvet Channel's 2 tickets giveaway contest on Facebook of which I was one of the four lucky winners. Thank you Velvet! (",)

The play's story was a bit different from the movie version but I enjoyed watching both. I thought Jett Pangan and Aiza Seguerra stole the show. I loved their performances the most. I liked Nyoy Volante as Drew as well. But of course I loved Diego and Julianne's pairing more than Nyoy and Vina. They have more chemistry together. And maybe I'm a little bit bias too because I think Diego is a hottie and I'm a fan of Julianne!

Don't they just look so adorable together?

Anyhoo, let me share with you my most favorite songs from Rock of Ages:

 Every Rose has its Thorn

I've Been Waiting for a Girl like You  (Super loved this scene in the movie)

Harden my Heart/Shadow of the Night

Anyhow, Anton Diaz of Our Awesome Planet gives you  reasons to watch Rock of Ages, the Broadway Musical and even gives a tip on how to fully enjoy Rock of Ages. If you want to watch Rock of Ages, The Repeat Run, catch it from July 12 to July 28, 2013 at RCBC Plaza, Makati at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium.
