After being blown away by Freida McFadden’s The Housemaid and The Housemaid’s Secret, I wanted to give her other stand alone novels a try. My first stand alone Freida McFadden book? The Coworker. How did this story live up to the first two? Was it as good and exciting? Before I share my honest review of The Coworker, let’s talk about the plot first.

The Coworker by Freida McFadden Plot

The story is about Natalie, a top sales agent who works at Vixed, a wellness company. She works with Dawn Schiff, who’s extra meticulous, quiet and is so much fascinated with turtles. When Dawn didn’t show up for work one day, it got Natalie wondering what happened to her. When she gets a phone call that seemed to be from Dawn asking for help, it sends Natalie searching.

The Coworker: A Twisty Story

This psychological thriller is also a fast paced read. The mystery of what happened to Dawn had me turning the pages. Though having read and watched a lot of psychological thrillers, it was pretty easy to guess the big twist of the story. It would have been a deal breaker for me. But McFadden had a couple more mini twists to the story that surprised me.

It’s not as dark as The Housemaid series are. It’s not as thrilling either. I was hoping that as the secrets began to unravel and the end got nearer, it’d be gripping. Being honest with this review of The Coworker, I’d say it wasn’t the ending I wanted.

Final Verdict of The Coworker

Having said all that, I think it’s still worth giving The Coworker by Freida McFadden a read. It’s still a pretty twisty story that psychological thriller fans can appreciate. I would rate this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.
