You know Valentine’s Day is just around the corner when your friends start talking about matters of the heart. My friends who are in a relationship are talking about what gift to give to their special someone.  My single gal pals are talking about where to find Mr. Right. Me? I’m talking about 14 romantic comedy movies worth watching this love month.  I guarantee these will bring on the kilig and feel good feelings. Why 14? Valentine’s Day is on the 14th!

1. Set It Up

This Netflix original came out last year and I thought it was such a feel good romantic comedy movie! It’s about two assistants in desperate need of a break from their work life and so they thought of teaming up to set up their workaholic bosses into falling in love.

Ever found yourself wondering whether you like or love someone? You’ll find your answer from this movie!

You like someone because of their qualities/personality. You love someone despite of.

2. He’s Just Not that Into You

One of my absolute favorite romantic comedy movies!

It’s an all star cast. Scarlett Johansson. Bradley Cooper. Ben Affleck. Drew Barrymore. Jennifer Aniston. Each character has his/her own love and relationship dilemma. I shipped Alex (Justin Long) and Gigi (Ginnifer Goodwin) the most in this romantic comedy movie.

Gigi is the single gal in search of love. She falls for guys that are just NOT that into her. Enter Alex. He opens her eyes to the reality.

If a guy is into you, he will make it happen, no matter what.

This movie is a must watch for all the love lessons it will teach you.

This right here is my favorite scene of this movie. Alex telling Gigi she’s his exemption. *swoon*

3. 50 First Dates

Who could forget Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore’s first movie team up?  The Wedding Singer was super kakilig! They did not disappoint with their follow up romcom movie.

Veterinarian Henry (Sandler) faces a big challenge when he falls for Lucy (Barrymore). She suffers from short term memory loss. She can’t remember meeting him. If making the effort to introduce yourself to someone over and over again and going out of your way to make sure she no longer forgets you isn’t love, then I don’t know what is!

4. Enchanted

This is one of my favorite Disney films! It stars Patrick Dempsey and Amy Adams.

The movie is about a pretty young woman, Giselle, who frolics with her woodland animal pals while she dreams of someday meeting her prince. But when she goes to the castle where she was set to marry Prince Edward, she’s forced out of Andalasia by the evil queen mother. She’s sent to a land where “happy ever afters” are only in fairy tales, in the concrete jungle that is New York City where divorce lawyer, Robert comes to her rescue.

What’s so different from this movie is that it’s not like your typical romantic comedy movies or your typical fairy tale story either. Worth noting are the catchy songs that are sure to get you singing! I specially loved it when Giselle sang That’s How You Know. It’s a really nice song with a great scenery to boot! Prepare to feel all the kilig in the world when you get to the ballroom scene.

5. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

I will not be ashamed to say I ship Lana Condor and Noah Centineo together! I’m way past my teenage years but this teen flick did not fail to bring out the high school girl in me! The movie is based on the best selling novel of Jenny Han of the same title and is about high school girl, Lara Jean, who secretly writes love letters to the guys she likes. When one of her crushes, Peter Kavinsky (Centineo), receives the letter she wrote to him, he makes a deal with her to fake date in hopes that he’ll make his ex-girlfriend jealous enough to want him back. But as they go on their fake relationship, the two find themselves developing feelings for each other.

It has all the feels of a John Hughes movie like Pretty in Pink and Sixteen Candles. Oh watch out as Peter and Lara bring on the PG 13 sizzles in the hot tub scene.

6. The Proposal

Sandra Bullock is Margarate Tate, a Canadian native, high powered book editor who who finds herself facing deportation issues. Ryan Reynolds is Andrew Paxton, her assistant who dreams of one day becoming a book editor himself. Not wanting to face the risk of losing her career because of deportation, she makes Andrew agree to her plan to say that they’re engaged and set to wed. With a suspicious immigration officer always lurking, Margaret is forced to go to Alaska with Andrew where she meets his family and forced to stick to their wedding plan.

Sure it’s a typical plot – a business deal that will soon develop into something more but I’m only happy to overlook that part because Ryan and Sandra have great chemistry together! And in my opinion, when the lead actors share that together, you’ll find the feel good romantic charm that romantic comedies are supposed to deliver. Plus there are quite a few scenes in this movie that’ll make you chuckle.

7. Friends with Benefits

Yes, it’s another one of those clichè romantic comedy movies – friends with benefits who eventually falls in love with each other.  But like I said, when the two lead actors share chemistry on screen, it’ll work! And Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis work!

Dylan (Timberlake), an art director from LA enticed by Jamie (Kunis), a New York based executive firm recruiter to take a job at the NYC branch of GQ Magazine.

When it comes to modern romantic gestures, I think this is one of the cutest! And in fact, a former crush of mine once told me that’s how he plans to propose… To his longtime girlfriend! *cue the sound of my heart shattering into a million pieces* LOL!

Jamie: What is this?
Dylan: Closing Time. By the band Semisonic. It's not Third Eye Blind. Can you believe that?
Jamie: No not the song. This!
Dylan: You said you wanted your life to be just like a movie so I had to use the real Grand Central instead of the fake one.

8. Made of Honor

“Ten years ago, I got in bed with the wrong girl. She turned out to be the right one.”

My favorite line from this Patrick Dempsey romantic comedy movie. He sure lived up to his title of Mr. McDreamy when he followed up Enchanted with this movie as Tom, a commitment phobic guy, who realizes he’s in love with his best friend, Hannah, who’s set to marry a Scottish guy.

9. Maid in Manhattan

My favorite JLo movie is The Wedding Planner truth be told but this comes pretty close. Maid in Manhattan is like a modern day take on Cinderella.

Jennifer Lopez is single mom, Marissa Ventura, who works as a maid in one of the posh hotels in Manhattan. She catches the eye of senator hopeful, Christopher Marshall (Ralph Fiennes), when he mistakes her for a guest at the hotel and mistakes her for someone else entirely. Marissa gets to experience one magically romantic night with Chris before her true identity is revealed and they find they’re actually from different worlds.

If you asked me for a list of romantic leading men, I’d be honest in saying Ralph Fiennes is so far down that list. Actually, he’s not on that list. But he sure made a very endearing romantic lead guy in this movie and pretty funny too. They just worked together – him and JLo. Even my Dad loved this movie. Natasha Richardson playing a society nitwit was also amusing in this film plus Stanley Tucci!

10. Hitch

When it comes to movies starring Will Smith, I think he is best known for the likes of Men in Black and Independence Day. Maybe even The Pursuit of Happiness. But let me rave about Hitch because as far as romantic comedy movies goes, this is an original.

He plays Alex “Hitch” Hitchens, a dating coach who helps guys win the heart of the woman of their dreams. But when he meets tabloid reporter, Sara Melas (Eva Mendes), he experiences romantic setbacks of his own as his proven romantic techniques fail to work on her. Their relationship is further threatened when she discovers his connection to Albert (Kevin James), now boyfriend of heiress, Allegra Cole, whose love life she’s digging dirt on.

It’s a very cute and funny movie! Will Smith brings on his comedic acting chops and perfectly mixes that with a sensitive, romantic side.

“That’s what people do. They leap. And hope to God they can fly. Because otherwise we just drop like a rock, wondering the whole way down, why in the hell did I jump? But here I am Sara, falling. And there’s only one person that makes me feel like I can fly. That’s you.”

11. Sleepless in Seattle

Do you believe in love at first sight? Well this Norah Ephron film wants you to believe such a thing can exist!

Sleepless in Seattle is about a kid who plays matchmaker for his widower Dad and a woman having second thoughts about her fiance. Most romcoms receive good reviews but not enough to actually become a box office hit. Not this movie though. It was both a critical and commercial success, pulling in millions in gross earnings.

A bit of trivia: While Ryan was already in Ephron’s mind to play Annie Reed, she wasn’t convinced about Tom Hanks being able to match up to Cary Grant from An Affair to Remember which is the inspiration behind the movie. Of course, we all know how that turned out – Hanks got the lead role to play Sam.

While normal romcom films have you watching the lead characters interacting with each other a lot, the two lead characters in this movie don’t actually meet until the final scene. But when they do, it was like… magic as Tom Hanks’ character, Sam would say.And where were they meeting? At the top of the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day. Talk about a romantic setting.

12. Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement

Anne Hathaway reprised her role as Mia Thermopolis and this time she’s in Genovia, about to become their new queen. She gets the shock of her life when she learns that she has to get married or she can’t be queen of Genenovia. Her crown is threatened even more when they learn there’s another possible heir to the crown, Lord Nicholas Devereaux – the same guy she flirted with at the ball.

I read that in The Princess Diaries book series by Meg Cabot, Mia really ends up with Michael – remember him from the first movie? I never read the books and while I liked Michael in the movie, I’m crazy about Nicholas! Chris Pines has the looks of a devilishly romantic guy. One look in those eyes and my knees would probably go weak just like Anne Hathaway’s character, Mia! Talk about falling for the enemy!

13. 10 Things I Hate About You

Who can forget Heath Ledger serenading Julia Stiles complete with a marching band in this movie just so she’d finally go on a date with him? Heath’s role as bad boy Patrick Verona was for me his best performance. Yes, I know he got critical acclaims for his roles in Brokeback Mountain as cowboy, Ennis Del Mar and in The Dark Knight as The Joker but still it’s his role in this teen romantic comedy that I liked best. Teen girls who watched him on this movie would most likely agree with me that it is in this movie that they fell in love with Heath Ledger specially when he blessed us with his song rendition of Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.

Check out Heath’s performance below:

And if bad boys are not your thing, then you probably would love JGL’s (Joseph Gordon Levitt’s) character, Cameron James, more since he’s sweet and smart who would go to great lengths just to go out with Larisa Oleynik’s character, Bianca who can’t date until her older sister, Kat Stratford  (Stiles’ character) does.

14. Bridget Jones’s Diary

Renee Zellweger stars in this movie as Bridget, a 32 year old woman, living in London, single, accident prone and worried about her weight. On her birthday, she resolves to turn her life around with the help of a diary. One of her resolutions? “Not continue to form romantic attachments to any of the following, alcoholics, workaholics, commitment phobics, peeping Toms, megalomaniacs, emotional fuckwits, or perverts. And especially will not fantasize about a particular person who embodies all these things.”

“I like you very much just as you are.” – Mark Darcy

If you want a feel good movie, this film won’t fail you. It’s got the romance story to it, yes but what I really like about this movie is Bridget’s relationship to herself. She’s not the smartest, sexiest or most successful leading lady. But she’s absolutely lovable and relatable – from her self pity fest over a bottle of wine listening to All By Myself by Celine Dion to finding the resolve to turn her life around and not be that old woman who ends up dying alone eventually eaten by Alsatians; to her quitting her job and getting her heart broken to getting up and starting over again. Bridget Jones will make you want to examine your own life and find your own self worth.
