I’ve been trying out a new skincare regimen again! I’m trying to see what would work well with my skin and for a month now, I’ve been using a local brand called The Unbranded Skincare. I just stumbled upon this brand as I was looking for reviews online of another local skincare brand. What caught my interest is their story. They believe in the principle of Skinimalism. Curious, I went on to read more. Not a lot of reviews yet about this brand. Perhaps that’s because it’s pretty new but the reviews I’ve read were positively glowing. Anyway, I was intrigued enough to buy and now I’m ready to share my experience with this skincare brand.

What is Skinimalism?

Before The Unbranded Skincare, I’ve never heard of this term before! So what is it? Well according to their website, skinimalism centers on a belief that skincare can and should be simpler.

Over the years, skincare really grew, didn’t it? When I was growing up, all I used were a cleanser, a toner, and a moisturizer. But when I hit my 20s’, I read I had to also start using eye creams to slow down the aging of my eyes and lessen dark circles and so I added that onto my skincare regimen. Then came the Korean skincare craze a lot of us are so fascinated with even to this day! And that regimen has about 5 to 10 steps to it, depending on what you subscribe to for your skin needs.

I definitely added more products to my skincare routine because I would love to have clear and dewy skin just like Koreans do! Here’s a look the products I used:

My Morning Skincare Regimen

  • Cleanser
  • Toner
  • Serum (I even used two serums at night)
  • Eye cream
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunblock
  • Spot treatment (for acne breakouts)

My Nighttime Skincare Regimen

  • Miscellar water to initially remove dirt and makeup (I tried to make it a habit even when I wasn’t wearing makeup because I read it helps with dirt removal too)
  • Cleanser
  • Toner
  • Niacinamide serum
  • Brightening serum
  • Eye cream
  • Moisturizer
  • Facial oil (I use this at night. I read it helps to boost skin moisture as it adds an extra layer of nourishment)
  • Spot treatment (for acne breakouts)

It can get quite expensive to use so many products right? But that’s not really why I got convinced to try out The Unbranded Skincare. I did the math! My skincare regimen would only cost me about Php1,000 -Php1,500. After all, I’ve been mindful to buy affordable skincare brands and steer clear of the expensive ones as I don’t want to break the bank in my quest to have good skin. The Unbranded Skincare set is Php1,800. It’s only about Php300 difference.

What got me to try it is the fact that it’s only three products. Read more about Skinimalism on their site.

About The Unbranded Skincare

As I mentioned a while ago, this is local skincare brand that was born in the middle of the pandemic lockdown. It’s the brainchild of two women, Mia Bulatao and Mells Limcaoco who were looking for products that would address their skincare needs. Read more about their story in this Metro article.

The design for this skincare line is simple. Overall white with black text. Even the brand logo isn’t anything fancy. As the creators of this brand said, they named their line The Unnbranded Skincare because they wanted the focus to be on the products themselves and their effectiveness.

Here are the 3 skincare products from The Unbranded. The cleansing wash, the day shield, and overnight cream.

Cleansing Wash

Cleanse + Correct. This cleanser is designed to remove dirt, grease, and grime without drying out the skin. According to their site, it has Squalene from olives that actively repairs lipidic barriers in the skin, which are generally destroyed by regular cleansers and soaps and allows the skin to better store moisture, resulting in clear, revitalized skin. It’s also mild so it won’t irritate the eyes or clog the pores or form comedones.

The cleansing wash acts as:

  • Makeup remover
  • Toner
  • Moisturizer
  • Soothing gel
  • Cleanser

Day Shield

Protect + Brighten. The Day Shield does more than just block harmful rays of the sun. It also protects the skin from pollution and other pollutions that causes pimples. It nourishes the skin and protects it from different skin woes during the day such as photoaging, skin darkening, pimples while also maintaining moisture and creating a brighter complexion and fuller, firmer skin. The Day Shield comes from a ferment extract of the Black Yeast which contains plenty of Beta Glucan that improves the soothing and protective properties of the other ingredients in the product.

The Day Shield acts as:

  • Brightening cream
  • Moisturizer
  • Sunblock
  • Make up primer
  • Protection from free radicals

The Overnight Cream

Repair + Renew. The overnight cream is rich in Centella Asiatica, a key ingredient that improve blood circulation in the skin. A good circulation leads to proper distribution of nourishment, initiation of repair and acceleration of healing among others. It has Vitamin B3, an important factor in the overall skin-cell-health improvement and restoration. It ensures tightened pores, clearer and healthier complexion as well as smooth and bouncy skin.

The Overnight Cream acts as:

  • Moisturizer
  • Essence
  • Serum
  • Eye cream
  • Anti-ageing cream

My Experience with The Unbranded Skincare

I was initially looking at buying the products from SeektheUniq but saw that the skincare set was on promo in their website. It cost Php1,800 for the set of 3 but I was able to buy it for Php1,350 + shipping last December. Shifting to skinimalism was a challenge for me. I was using a lot of products that would become redundant if I used them together with these 3 and so I waited a while ’til I was able to use up the current products I used in my skincare regimen. But since I didn’t buy them all at once, it became apparent to me that waiting wasn’t going to work. I just decided to buy the set and stop using the rest of the products I had with me.

I could buy per piece. Their overnight cream was the most raved about! But I wanted to get the whole experience.

My Skin Condition

First, let me describe my skin condition. I’ve got combination skin and some acne here and there. I definitely would say my skin is dull. So I’m always on the lookout for skincare products that would address those.

Product Impressions

The cleansing wash doesn’t really lather up like other facial washes. But that’s okay. It’s not my first time using a cleanser that doesn’t. I learned that just because it doesn’t lather up, it doesn’t mean it’s not effective. Beachborn’s facial cleanser doesn’t lather up so much but it was sure effective in cleansing my face and treating acne. It has a mild scent. I pump a pea size twice so I can apply generously and evenly on my face and neck. The Dayshield has the thickest texture of the three and it’s the only one with a scent. Nothing bad. It’s actually fragrant. I guess its thick texture is because it’s supposed to work as a sunblock too. I make sure I blend this evenly to prevent white streaks on my face. It’s not a dealbreaker since it still could easily be absorbed by my skin.

As for the overnight cream, I like this the most. I do think I see a sort of glow and not dull skin which I usually see in the mirror every morning when I wake up.

I still get the occasional hormonal acne. But I like that these products seem to calm my skin. The pimples dry out after a day or two. I used to depend on my Apotheke spot treatment product to heal those acnes, especially when I get the red and inflamed ones. I don’t know if I’ll do away with the spot treatment for good but for the time being, I don’t have to buy because this skincare set is doing a good job in healing and soothing my skin.

Overall Conclusion

I am enjoying my experience with The Unbranded Skincare. I like that I only have to use three products. A simple skincare regimen is wonderful! Price-wise, yes, there are cheaper skincare brands out there compared to these three. But it’s not a total splurge! It’s still pretty affordable. The Unbranded Skincare cleanser is Php550, day shield is Php750 and overnight cream is Php950. They offer a duo (day shield and overnight cream) for Php1,360.

I think Php1,800 for all three products is a good buy considering that each product is made to work hard to address one’s skin needs. I would recommend this local skincare brand!
