I got nominated for another blogger award! I am seriously elated and grateful at the thought of getting recognized. Back when blogging was simply treated like an online diary (aka non monetized), I also got some blogger awards (can’t show you guys though ‘cos that was in my old blog which I deleted long, long time ago 😔). To see that these blogger recognition awards are still around also takes me back to those days.
Thank You
I was nominated by Smelly Socks and Garden Peas . I highly enjoy reading her blog where she shares tidbits of her day to day life. She talks about her silly boys (follow her on Twitter and have a chuckle or two about the conversations she has with her sons), the daily grind and sometimes, she also shares some tough things about family life.
Visit, follow and engage with her at these channels:

The Rules
1. Thank the blogger that nominated you and give a link to their site.
2. Do a post to show your award.
3. Give a summary of how your blog started.
4. Give two pieces of advice for any new bloggers.
5. Select at least 15 other bloggers for this award.
6. Let each nominee know you’ve nominated them and give a link to your post.
How my blog started
Pieces of Liz is actually my second blog already. I used to have one called dreamer-achiever, also here on Blogger. That was more like an online diary just as how blogs started out and then I deleted that – kinda wish I didn’t. Okay, I’m digressing.
I started blogging again back in 2009 not because I wanted to earn from it (not initially anyway) but because I realized I still wanted an outlet online where I can share my interests with people in the hopes that they find it useful for them as well.
Luckily, this blog has not only been a creative outlet through the years. It has earned me some amazing stuff like tickets to see a play because my blog was tapped to be a media sponsor. This year, I got my first client for sponsored posting!
I’ve said this to myself for a couple of years now – I want to monetize my blog. I’m saying it again, only this time I’m really determined.
Some Advice
New to blogging? First of all, let me say, welcome to the blogosphere! And now for the advice I want to give, I dish these out as a blogger and also as a marketing professional:
It’s more than just the numbers
I say this a marketer whose job it is to get awareness and create interest ultimately leading to sales for my clients. We’re not just looking for content creators with big followings to work with. Sure, it’s a factor but more than anything, it is the content that matters. We are looking for people who consistently produce good and credible content.
And as a blogger with a small following, I can attest to the truthfulness of that because well I did get a paying client for this blog.😊
Promote, promote, promote
I’ve been guilty of this for a long time. I wrote and I wrote but I hardly ever promoted my content. I had this silly notion that if I wrote good content, people are eventually going to find my blog. But there are a lot of bloggers out there. Sure, some people are bound to discover your blog but why not give it some push and put it out there for people to see? Use social media! Blog hop! Engage with other bloggers!
Bring traffic to your blog specially if you want to monetize it.
Love what you do
This is the most important advice I will dish out. Know why you want to blog in the first place because blogging takes a lot of hard work so you gotta be in it for the long haul. A couple of years back, I started another blog but ended up abandoning it and eventually deleting it because I knew my heart wasn’t in it. I didn’t enjoy blogging there the way I enjoy writing in this blog.
