My favorite romance author is Colleen Hoover aka CoHo. I discovered her through a book club I was once a part of and they recommended Ugly Love as our book of the month. I enjoyed reading that book and I’ve read plenty of Colleen Hoover novels since then. My favorite CoHo novel so far? It’s Maybe Someday. I loved the story so much that whenever I encounter a CoHo reader new and old asking for a next reading recommendation, I always recommend it.
Well, Colleen decided to write a follow-up story to that book with the same characters I loved: Ridge and Sydney. Naturally, I would get the book and read it to find out what happens next to their love story. I have finished reading it and proceeding to share my thoughts about this CoHo novel.
What Maybe Now is all about
Maybe Now is part of the Maybe series. In this Colleen Hoover novel, Ridge and Sydney are now a couple and trying to navigate how to be in their new relationship while Ridge’s ex, Maggie, is still in the picture as his friend.
Maggie, on the other hand, is still grappling with her illnesss. When she decides to make a bucket list of things she wants to do maybe one of these days, a new romance presents itself to her. Now she has to decide whether to let someone new in her life as she tries to live her life to the fullest.
My Review of Maybe Now
Did Maybe Someday call for a sequel? Not really. I thought the ending of that book was really good. Ridge and Sydney ended up together in that Colleen Hoover novel. But I appreciate that she thought it would be nice to give us readers a view of what Ridge and Sydney’s relationship as a couple is like. How would I describe it? Saccharine sweet. Whether I find that to be a good thing or a bad thing, I’m not sure. I don’t know if it’s just because I’m years older now than when I first encountered Ridge and Sydney that that’s how I found their love story in Maybe Now to be like.
I’d say it was because of Maggie’s story that I kept reading this book because Colleen also wrote this book from her perspective. I liked her struggle with whether to let someone new in her life or not. But who could resist an adrenaline-loving, hot, and sensitive, doctor like Jake who’s crazy about her? I wish Maybe Now focused more on these two than Ridge and Sydney. Although I liked that she gave the love triangle of Maggie, Ridge, and Sydney a better closure in this novel.
Colleen Hoover is a great writer. All the books I’ve read from her, I loved. Except Maybe Not, the other CoHo novel that’s part of the Maybe series. She writes characters that are easy to love and would root for. The love stories are also wonderful. And the sex scenes are hot. But I will say that I found Maybe Now’s ending to be super cheesy! I already thought Ridge and Sydney were sickly sweet in this novel but that ending pushed it over the edge. All three couples: Sydney and Ridge; Maggie and Jake; and Bridgette and Warren got engaged and married all at the same time and in Vegas no less! I wish she had chosen only Maggie and Jake for that engagement scene. After all, he’s older and she’s got limited time.
That ending had me going “What?!”
To Read or Not to Read?
Despite not being crazy about how this CoHo novel ended, I still think Maybe Now is worth reading. I would rate this 4 out of 5 stars.
