The Cruel Intentions’ Reboot on Prime Video is a must-watch series for both fans of the original 1999 film and newcomers alike. The reboot brings the iconic tale of manipulation, power, and seduction into a modern setting. It delivers a fresh take on the beloved classic while retaining the essence that made the original so unforgettable.
I am a fan of the original Cruel Intentions movie that starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe. This was a coming-of-age movie for me. I was apprehensive when I first saw that Cruel Intentions was getting a reboot. Hollywood’s track record of reboots hasn’t been so great, for me at least. Gossip Girl. Charmed. The Craft. These were all movies/series that made pop culture and each got a reboot. Unfortunately, I didn’t find the reboots even half as good as the original ones. But the trailer seemed promising, and so I gave the series a try.
Here are reasons to give Cruel Intentions’ reboot a try.
A Faithful Yet Modern Adaptation
The Cruel Intentions Reboot successfully strikes a balance between paying homage to the original and updating the story for today’s audience. The series set in the world of elite College students in Washington D.C., captures the high stakes and interpersonal drama that defined the original but with a contemporary twist. From social media intrigue to modern power dynamics, the reboot cleverly weaves in elements that resonate with today’s viewers.
I like that in this reboot, the supporting characters, Blaise and Cece are also given their own subplots that may be worth following for the next season.
Compelling Characters and Stellar Performances
The new cast brings a fresh energy to the familiar archetypes. If you’re a fan of the original film like me, you’ll be thrilled to see echoes of Sebastian Valmont and Kathryn Merteuil in the reboot’s characters. But their portrayals are far from carbon copies. Each actor brings their unique flair, ensuring the series feels new and exciting. I
As someone who had the hots for Ryan Philippe, I think Zac Burgess brings his own deliciousness to the role of Lucien which is a crucial thing for such a spicy series. And Sarah Catherine Hook as Caroline effortlessly gives off that ice princess vibe.

With sharp dialogue and multi-dimensional performances, the Cruel Intentions Reboot dives deep into the motivations and complexities of its characters.
However, I will say I do have two gripes about this series reboot. I don’t care for the series bringing back one original actor from the film only to play the same kind of role, 25 years later. The series didn’t need this kind of nod anymore. And my second gripe, I don’t think Lucien and Annie have a strong chemistry together. I don’t feel the sexual charge in the air between the two characters. In fact, I found myself rooting for Lucien and Caroline to get together in the series because I feel it more between them.
A Bold Narrative That Pushes Boundaries
What made Cruel Intentions such a cult classic? It explored taboo topics and challenge societal norms, and the reboot is no different. The series dives headfirst into issues like privilege, morality, and the consequences of power, making it not just entertaining but thought-provoking as well.
Nostalgia Done Right
For fans of the original film, the Cruel Intentions Reboot is packed with subtle nods and Easter eggs that will bring a smile of recognition. The iconic music, biting wit, and unforgettable atmosphere are all present, ensuring the reboot feels like a true continuation rather than a hollow imitation.
Why You Should Watch It
Whether you’re a die-hard fan of the original or just discovering the world of Cruel Intentions, this reboot offers something for everyone. It’s bold, stylish, and unafraid to tackle complex themes. With its modern updates and gripping storytelling, the Cruel Intentions Reboot is a standout in the crowded world of reboots and remakes.
So, grab your popcorn and prepare for a ride full of twists, schemes, and drama. The Cruel Intentions Reboot is streaming now on Prime Video, and it’s a series you don’t want to miss. Hopefully, this series only gets better with another season.
